Marylou Landes Khym, 92, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., passed away peacefully on Friday, December 19, 2014. Marylou was born on February 4, 1922 in Chicago, Ill., to Herbert Ellis Landes and Wyota Ewing Landes. After graduating from the University of Chicago with a bachelor's degree in nutrition, she married Joseph Xavier Khym. In 1945 they moved to Oak Ridge, Tenn., where she lived the remainder of her life.

Marylou was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Xavier Khym, and her brother, John Ewing Landes.

Marylou is survived by her two children, Bob Khym and wife Claudette of Athens, Ala., and Bonnie Boyce and husband Keith of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Joe Khym and wife Christine of Nashville, Tenn., Jason Khym and wife Christen of Maryville, Tenn., Jake Khym and wife Heather of Abbotsford, B.C., Jennifer London and husband Kevin of Manassas, Va., Richard Bowen of Edgewater, Md., and Robert Bowen of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; and six great grandchildren, Julie Khym, Maria Khym, Judah Khym, JJ Khym, Eva Khym, and Elizabeth Khym.

As an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Oak Ridge, Marylou was involved with the Council of Catholic Women and served as a Cub Scout den mother and Girl Scout troop leader. She also served her community as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the League of Women Voters. Marylou was an avid bridge player throughout her life and was playing and coming in first place until just a few weeks before her passing. She also enjoyed tennis, keeping current on the news and political events, and watching University of Tennessee Lady Vols basketball games on television.

A funeral service to memorialize Marylou's wonderful life will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oak Ridge, Tenn., on December 26, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will begin prior to the service at 9:00 a.m. in the church.
