Shirley Liebman Schwartz, age 90, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on September 19, 2025.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Shirley spent her early years in Greensburg, Pennsylvania and attended Chatham University in Pittsburgh.
In 1955, Shirley married the love of her life, Howard Schwartz. During the first eight years of their marriage, they lived around the world with the U.S. Army, building lifelong memories and friendships. Following their time in the service, they lived in Pittsburgh and Orange , CA before later making her home in Clinton, Lenoir City and Knoxville, Tennessee, where she was a longtime member of the Jewish Congregation of Oak Ridge.
Shirley will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her warmth, kindness and quiet strength touched everyone who knew her. She cherished family gatherings, carried forward traditions and always made those around her feel loved and welcome.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Howard Schwartz; her parents, Sam and Lil Liebman; her brother, Dick Liebman; and her sister, Polly Liebman.
Shirley is survived by her three children, Mark (Cindy)Schwartz, Frank (Lori) Schwartz and Michael Schwartz (Kathleen Kerns); her grandchildren, Jared Schwartz, Sam Schwartz, Katie (Alex) Edmondson, Jordan (Dan) Gibson, Nicole Schwartz, James Schwartz, and Carolina Schwartz; her great-grandchildren, Graeme Gibson, Odette Gibson, and Ava Edmondson; sisters-in-law Gerrie Schwartz Kaplinsky and Linda Liebman; and nephews Don Liebman, Doug Liebman and Michael Schwartz.
A funeral service will be held at Mott-McKamey Funeral Home in Oak Ridge, TN on Thursday, September 25, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to The Jewish Congregation of Oak Ridge (P. O. Box 5434, Oak Ridge, TN 37831-5434 or jcortn.org) in Shirley’s memory.
