Nancy Obituary

February 26, 1955 — December 1, 2012

Nancy Jarvis Hudson, "Nan" to those who knew and loved her, entered eternal life on December 1, 2012, following a courageous 14 month journey with pancreatic cancer. Nan was born February 26, 1955 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where she lived most of her life. She was the daughter of Evelyn Fitzwater Jarvis and Gerald Melvin Jarvis, who predeceased her. As a child, Nan lived in the Woodland community where she had many fond memories of adventures with her childhood friend, Karen Pruett. Nan was a 1973 graduate of Oak Ridge High School. Nan was a paralegal in the real property department at the law firm of Joyce, Meredith, Flitcroft and Normand, where she had worked for almost 15 years. In July 2012 she was specially honored by the law firm for her years of great service. Throughout her life, Nan cared deeply for animals, especially dogs and cats. At the time of her death, she and her husband were the proud "parents " of Leo, a mixed breed that they found abandoned and took into their care. She also enjoyed snorkeling in the Virgin Island while on family vacations, birdwatching, boating on Norris Lake, and supporting her children at their various sporting events as they grew up. Nan was a caring, compassionate woman whose generosity as an organ donor of her corneas has provided another with sight. Cherishing Nan's memory are Nathan, her husband of 29 years, sons Matt and Will, mother-in-law, Doris Vanaman and her husband Don, her sister, Jane Garrety and her husband Jeff, nieces Katie Garrety and Beth Lizzio and her husband Bill and great-nephew Grant Lizzio, brother-in-law Paul Hudson and his wife Regina, nieces Katie Hudson and Christy Branson, her husband Travis, and daughters Bella and McKinley, and special friend Eva Zarate who Nan loved as a daughter. The family extends special thanks to Dr. Daniel Ibach and staff, Caris Healthcare, Pastor Kenny Raines and the congregation of New Salem Baptist Church, the lawyers and staff of Joyce, Meredith, Flitcroft and Normand, the staff at URS Corporation and MS Technology, and special friend and counselor Steve Herbes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the New Salem Baptist Church building fund, 1030 Oak Ridge Highway, Clinton, Tennessee 37716. A memorial service will be held Saturday December 8, 2012 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Raines officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00pm at the funeral home. There will be a private interment at Oak Ridge Memorial Gardens at a later date.
