Melissa Kay Maples-Harrell passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026, leaving behind family and friends who loved her deeply and countless memories that will be carried forward by those who knew her best. 

Melissa was someone who found joy in the simple things: warm days, good music turned up loud, fly-fishing, cooking with her husband, dancing, and being surrounded by those she loved. She had a strong spirit, a caring heart, and a fierce love for her people. 

She is lovingly remembered by her husband, David Harrell; her sons, Johnny Durr, his wife Jessie, and Joshua Durr; her stepchildren, Aimee Martin, and Shane Harrell, his wife Megan Harrell; her cherished granddaughters, Atalee and Bellamy Martin; and her beloved dog, Althea. 

Melissa’s memory will live on in summer evenings, her favorite songs, time spent near the water, and the moments that remind her family of the life she lived so fully. 

In honoring Melissa’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held.
