January 23, 1933 — August 20, 2013

Lois Jean Mattox Weir, age 80, of Oak Ridge passed away Tuesday August 20, 2013 at her home.
Lois was born January 23, 1933 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Clifford and Emma Hoffman Mattox. She first moved to Oak Ridge in 1955 and stayed until 1980 when she moved to Georgia and then returned to Oak Ridge in 1985. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church USA here in Oak Ridge and was last employed with the Atomic City Aquatic Club as a coach. Lois loved children and her life revolved around teaching. She ran the Learn to Swim programs in Oak Ridge for 40 plus years. She started the Clinton High School Swim Team, was inducted into the Oak Ridge Hall of Fame, and was awarded a lifetime achievement award at her retirement from by Governor Phil Bredeson, she was active with the Special Olympics, and had an invitational swim meet named for her. She taught at Glenwood Elementary School for ten years until her retirement in 2008.
In addition to her parents Lois is preceded in death by her son James and is survived by her sons David Weir of Mt. Mourne, NC, Todd Weir and his wife Aneita of Spring City, Patrick Weir of Clinton, and Scott Weir of Oliver Springs, two sisters Joan Mattox of Cincinnati, OH, and Lynne Bullerman of Tampa, FL.
A memorial service will be held Saturday August 24, 2013 7:00pm in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor Sharon Youngs officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held Sunday August 25, 2013 2:00pm at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to the Atomic City Aquatic Club P.O. Box 4725 Oak Ridge, TN 37830-4725 att. Beth Eckerman for a special needs program to be set up in the memory of Lois Weir.
