Lawrence (Larry) Edward Paden, age 81, passed away on September 12, 2026. Born on November 6, 1944, in Duncannon, Pennsylvania, Larry lived a life deeply rooted in faith, family and selfless service to others.
Larry was a man of profound conviction who chose to spend his life to spreading the gospel across the globe. After a successful career, he retired at the young age of 50, choosing to dedicate his remaining 31 years entirely to international missionary work. Driven by his desire to connect deeply with the people he served, Larry became fluent in Italian, Russian, and Spanish. His mission work took him to 23 different countries, with most receiving his return visits multiple times, leaving an indelible mark on communities worldwide.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Kay Paden; his parents, Walter and Shirley Paden; and his siblings, Lou Ann and Connie.
Larry's legacy of love continues through his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Wanda Riggs Paden, and his brothers, Mike and Peggy. He was a devoted father to his children, Eddie (Deana) Paden of Big Clifty, Kentucky, and Karen (Robert) Belwood of Somerset, Kentucky, as well as Wanda's children, Kim Cripps, Becky Williams and Cindy (Rain) Hudson.
Affectionately, known as "Pappy," Larry took immense pride in his 26 grandchildren, who carry forward his spirit of adventure and kindness: Jacob (Elizabeth) Belwood, Emily (Jacob) Mantle, Sophie Belwood, Nathan (Carolyn) Paden, Nicholas (Katie) Paden, Kara (Ben) Metzger, Kaitlyn (David) Lancaster, Maggie Belwood, Danielle Cripps, Aubrey Cripps, Josie Cripps, Ali Williams, Tori Williams, Jewel Williams, Tania Williams, Jett Williams. Olivia Williams, Dash Williams, Chase Williams, Cruze Williams, Xavier Hudson, Jonas Hudson, Malcolm Hudson, Lightning Hudson, Trinity Hudson, Victoria Hudson and Malachi Hudson.
Larry's life was a testament to what it means to live with purpose. Whether he was preaching in a foreign language across the ocean or enjoying quiet moments with his massive, loving family at home, his warmth, intellect, and generous heart were always on full display. He will be deeply missed by countless lives he touched both near and far.
The family will receive friends from 10:00am - 12:00pm, Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at Mott-McKamey Funeral Home in Oak Ridge, TN.
