John Clifton Moyers, 87, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., passed away on Jan. 12, 2019.
He was born on Aug. 6, 1931, in Speedwell, Tenn., to Clifton Lafayette and Helen Bruce Moyers. He graduated from Claiborne County High School in 1948, graduated from University of Tennessee-Knoxville in 1952 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering, and graduated from Columbia University in NYC in 1953 with a MS in Mechanical Engineering, while enlisted in the Air Force. He fulfilled the remainder of his Air Force commitment at Arnold Engineering AF Base in Tullahoma, Tenn.
In 1954, he married Evelyn Keck Moyers of Goin, Tenn., and they moved to Oak Ridge in 1956, when he began his employment at Oak Ridge National Laboratories, where he would work for the next 40 years. John remained in the Air Force Reserves until 1962. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Oak Ridge Lions Club and attended Grace Covenant Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife Evelyn, his brother George Bruce Moyers, and his parents.
He is survived by Janice Moyers Crossett of Jackson, Tenn.; John Clifton Moyers, Jr., of Oak Ridge; and grandchildren Breony Moyers, Kelsey Moyers, Hannah Crossett, Alexander Crossett, and Laura Crossett; and great-grandson Rhett Wardlow.
Family visitation will be held at Grace Covenant Church in Oak Ridge on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, from 3 to 5 p.m., and a memorial service will be held at Grace Covenant Church on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Research Foundation.
