Gerald Clevenger, 73, of Oak Ridge, TN, passed away peacefully at the University of Tennessee Medical Center from complications of laryngeal cancer on May 2, 2025.

Gerald was born and raised in Knoxville, TN, where he graduated from Holston Hills High School. After graduating high school, he joined the Navy. He served in the Navy for six years operating the Navy F-4 Flight Simulator at the US Navy Training Center Oceana in Virginia Beach, VA. While in the Navy He met the love of his life, Paulette Antle. They were married on September 9, 1977 in Virginia Beach, VA. During his time in Virginia Beach, he attended Tidewater Community College. After serving his country in the Navy, Gerald and Paulette moved back to Knoxville, TN to be closer family. Gerald obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Economics with honors from the University of Tennessee. After receiving his degree, he started his career in network security at Y-12, where he worked for over 20 years. Gerald then went on to instruct Network Security at Fountainhead College of Technology. He received his master’s degree in Computer and Information Science in 2007.

Gerald and Paulette retired and moved to Jamestown, KY. While they enjoyed their farm in Kentucky, they missed Tennessee. Once again, they decided to move back to Tennessee and establish their life in Oak Ridge. Gerald really enjoyed being back in Tennessee, he loved his home in Oak Ridge that was near Melton Hill Lake.

Gerald was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. His favorites things were spending time with his family, watching Tennessee football, taking his dog, Leo, for walks, listening to music, and going out to eat.

Gerald is Survived by his wife, Paulette Clevenger. His children Summer Babis and Sara Clevenger. His Grandchildren Amilia Babis, William Babis, Shane Dobens, and Sofia Dobens. His siblings, Les Clevenger, Brenda Arnwine, and Lyn Clevenger. His dog, Leo.

Gerald is preceded in death by his brother Ron Clevenger and his parents Wallace Clevenger and Weltha Haynes.

Service: Receiving of friends will be held from 2pm-3pm on Saturday May 10 at Mott-McKamey Funeral Home in Oak Ridge. A celebration of life will be held in early June.

Mott-McKamey Funeral Home and Cremations is assisting the Clevenger family.
