Gail Hammerbacher

September 23, 1945 — March 5, 2019

Gail Anderson Hammerbacher passed away peacefully after a long battle with pulmonary disease on March 5, 2019 at her residence at Greenfield Senior Living in Oak Ridge at the age of 73. She is proceeded in death by her parents, Carl and Beatrice Anderson and grandson Edward George Dean. She is survived by her husband Edward (Ed), her daughter Alyssa Brown and daughter-in-law Sarah Brown, daughter Lisa Lounsbery and son-in-law Walter Lounsbery, and daughter Stacy Dean and son-in-law Russell Dean, grandchildren Kelsey Bishop and Mark Dean, and brother Doug Anderson and sister-in-law Cheryl Anderson.
Gail was born and raised in Hamden, Connecticut, graduated from Hamden High School, and earned a BS from The University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas, Texas. In 1967 she married the love of her life, Edward Hammerbacher, who she was married to for 51 years. They loved vacationing at the beach and going on cruises around the Caribbean. Gail's key to a happy marriage was to have a sense of humor and never go to bed angry. Gail raised three independent and strong daughters, who all picked up her wonderful sense of humor. She loved the beach and her Dallas Cowboys. Her family and friends will miss her. Visitation with the family will be 5-7pm Friday March 08,2019 at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life to follow at 7pm.
At the Visitation and Celebration of Life the family requests that you not wear black, but light and bright clothing reminiscent of the beach, Gail's favorite place. Tropical shirts are most welcome, and Gail will be smiling down from heaven. Online messages may be left for the family at www.martinfuneralhomeoakridge.com . Services and cremation arrangements entrusted to Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home 865-483-4341
