Eugene Max Moody

Eugene Max Moody (Gene), age 94, peacefully passed away on April 5, 2023. He was born in Robbinsville, NC on January 12, 1929. His family moved to Fontana Village, NC where his father was working on the Fontana Dam. Gene graduated in the last class to graduate from Fontana High School. His family then moved to Maryville, TN. He enrolled at Tennessee Tech University and received a bachelor's degree on May 1, 1952. Gene then joined the Air Force and became a jet pilot during the Korean War. When the war was over, he returned to Maryville. He took a job teaching 8th grade at Evert Junior High. While working on a master’s degree at UT he received a call to teach at Oak Ridge High School. He taught drafting and computer aided designing. He also coached the baseball team for seven years. In 1973 he formed East Tennessee Engineering with a partner (Bob Walker). They designed oil refinery equipment for Atlantic Richfield Co. They were an engineering consultant firm which produced mechanical drawings and blueprints for industrial firms. They had sixteen employees. In 1985 he received the Tennessee Vocational Teacher of the Year. He retired in 1992. His hobbies were woodworking, painting, and camping. He was preceded in death by his parents, Justin and Merle Moody, his wife of 62 years Shirley Payne Moody and sister, Doris Ammons.

Survivors are his wife Ann Moody; daughters, Susan Brown, Donna Moody, Stacy Murray of Oak Ridge; a son, Jeff and wife, Dawn of Kennesaw, GA; grandsons,  Josh Shearin, Joey Murray and Jacob Murray; granddaughters, Heather Mohamed and Taylor Moody; great granddaughter, Heidi Mohamed; nephews Lindy (Lisha) Ammons and Mark (Melissa) Ammons of Robbinsville, NC.
