Dennis Urban, at the age of 78, passed away in Oak Ridge Tennessee, on Wednesday, July 30th.
He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus of the 4th Degree, the past president of the Knoxville Civil War Roundtable, and a career volunteer fire fighter of 38 years. His firefighting service began in Louisville, Kentucky, and continued in Maryland at Poolesville Station 14, Germantown Station 29, and Chillum-Adelphi Station 34. He went on to serve as Fire Chief of Gaithersburg Stations 8 and 28, and later as Fire Chief of Bethesda Stations 6, 20, and 26.
He was the son of Leonard and Helen Urban of Takoma Park Maryland, and the twin brother of Lenny Urban.
His memory lives on in his children and grandchildren: Lauren Urban (Zurilla) with two grandsons, Kathryn Urban-Reich with three grandsons, two granddaughters, and two great grandchildren, Daniel Urban with two grandsons, and Kristine Urban.
He was a published author, historian, and speaker, possessing a vastly detailed knowledge of the Civil War. Dennis was a devoted member of the Saint Mary’s Catholic Church community, as well as a lifelong lover of baseball and football. He will be deeply missed by dear friends and family.
